Flying guest
Creepy-crawly of the day: the common wasp, vespula vulgaris.

We've had a visitor who was apparently looking for a place to nest under a blanket on our couch, and she was much larger than any wasp I have seen around here, so I'm assuming that she is a queen. I captured her majesty, and holy crap, she is huge.

Wasp under the cut.

"Hey, let me out!"
The line on the forehead plate tells us that this is most probably a common wasp and not a German wasp - they have dots rather than this one line.

"I saw you lift the thing, I know that the exit is under here."

"You want me to sit on this? Fine. A very puny throne, but I'll take it."

What a beautiful majesty, and beautiful shots! ♥ Is that a 5ct-piece?
I must confess, though, that I didn't even realise the difference between German and Common wasps so far. I'll have to ask the next one for a fast face-to-face before I shoo her out.

Glad you appreciate of my turn as the portraitist of her highness! :D It's just a 1ct piece, but she still seemed huuuge. Maybe I'm underestimating the size of our regulars, though. :)

To be fair I only knew that there were several kinds of wasps before looking up what this one was, narrowed it down to two, and then looked at pictures to try and find out what the difference between them was.

Maybe she has W/L dyslexia and confounded you with her pack. *g*

And PS: Fantastic pictures! Love her hair -- bet her waspian name translates into Rolanda.

I was guessing she was suffering from some kind of S-dyslexia if she took me for the largest worker or drone in the world, but maybe she was just a waspian anthropologist on a field study.

Rolanda is a good name for her Majesty now you mention it. And she does look like one.
