Prof H. is a difficult case. He is usually very forbidding and stern in the beginning, but becomes positively charming once he's seen that you're not an idiot. I used to be scared of him, but after I handed in my first paper, he became positively charming - stopping in the hallways to ask how I was, greeting me whenever he saw me, stopping to chat, the works. It was quite the transformation.
