Fanfiction: Books
Thursday, August 14th, 2008 02:47 amAround 1 a.m. everything is a good idea, including making graphs of the most popular books used as an inspiration by fanfic-writers based on the number of fanfics written for those books on FF.net.
Here are the (fairly unsurprising) results:

I can't express how thankful I am that Discworld fics came in last, nor how appalled I am by the fact that there are so many DW ficcers in the first place. I don't know why, but for me, there is something extremely wrong and sacrilegious about the thought of people sitting down to write Vimes/Detritus cross-overs or whatever.
Although, considering how many fanfics there are for the Bible, I probably should not be surprised at the fact that they do exist.
Especially considering that there are 80 Minesweeper fics out there.
Anyway. Good night!

The DW fanfics I did look at out of morbid curiosity rip out the original storyline and disregard all else to have their poorly characterised fanfic Sues fall for each other. The DW novels have done nothing to deserve such a fate.

Still, with the exception of the Blake fans who write about fallen angels and the like, I would have expected that the majority of people who have read the bible are believers and would not write fic on their holy writ, and the rest not to care enough to do so.
What is striking, fascinating and scary at the same time is how many of the people I scrolled through yesterday who write Bible fic also write Twilight fic. o.O
