Hmm, I don't know if you like his style, but I very much enjoy the Dresden Series by Jim Butcher. They're an odd mix of fantasy, mystery and detective story with a male protagonist who is a quite old-fashioned chauvinist (admitted by himself) but accompanied regularly by a female cop and all in all very often surrounded or confronted by strong women, be they human, vampire or fae.
Have you given Thomas Plischke's dwarf books a go? The first is called "Die Zwerge von Amboss", and I liked it.

I'm still confused by there being so little women-centred HP fanfic. The femmeslash I've discovered so far is largely crap, I have to admit, but then I do read het as well. [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier has a WIP about Hermione and Draco called "The Politician's Wife", I think, that still fascinated me.
