That's the one I don't really understand - in the DSM-IV, every disorder contained something about the patient experiencing discomfort due to the symptoms they were experiencing, which strikes me as pretty damn necessary especially when pathologising paraphilias. I'm out of my depth here because my Psych student days are long over and I'm no expert, but it seems to be as though they're back to pathologising a whole lot of things, because to my mind, it doesn't really make sense to list symptoms that aren't necessarily a sign of illness in a diagnosis manual as the first description of related conditions proper.

Drat, I need to find a psych major to explain this to me. Maybe this'd be a good thing to bring up in my next therapy session?
