Ok, readers of Discworld novels. [Poll #1574185]

Who is this Adora person? Was she in the books? She was? Oh, I know that she looks like Spike, but she doesn't behave like her. Like, at all. I realise that (nearly) everybody cries on occasion. I realise that everybody sometimes buries their face in someone's shoulder, so it's absolutely realistic for any character to do so as well.

What pisses me off is that it's put in a movie even though it's wildly OOC for the character to do that at that point, that this particular type of OOCness - changed to show their emotional side - only ever affect seems to affect female characters (and arguably, though in the opposite direction, Faramir).

In the second part, again, every time Adora does something bad ass, she's portrayed in an emotionally vulnerable place directly after. Now, it's true to my experience that women who put an emphasis on a hard shell on the outside are as emotional as anyone on the inside, and they do cry and spill their guts and talk about sad things and their feelings just like everybody else, though to my experience not necessarily often.

And we're talking about Adora here. This protective shell is very much a part of Adora's character, and while I believe that it's true she was in mourning and some of her acerbity may well be due to that in the books, I doubt that she'd readily cry on Moist's shoulder or anyone else's shoulder.

There were a lot of redeeming factors that still make this my favourite Discworld adaptation so far, and apparently not butchering female characters is hard if your options are limited because you're making a movie and not writing a book or doing something else in which subtlety can reasonably be expected, but what they did to Adora still pisses me off and makes me sad (especially since Terry Pratchett himself had a hand in the script - why, Terry, why??), and I wonder what the reasons for these changes are.
