Stine yet again...

Did I mention that the designers of our lovely, shiny new E-Learning system FORGOT about Minor subjects? 

EDIT: some of them, that is. Some were lucky, but then, it only befits my faculties to be sloppy and unorganised. They always are.

Until today, students could only enroll for courses in their Major subject - in most cases. Minors - pshaw, who even needs those?

I only need one more course in my major, all other courses I need are in my minor subject. 
This whole thing is so typical of my university - instead of introducing it little by little, for the new students who enroll this year first of all and then, after a test phase, subsequently for the rest, they do it for everybody at the same time and are dismayed when it does not work - as everybody with a spoonful of brain would have known from the beginning. 

For most courses on the syllabus of my lovely German literature minor, it's still not possible to enroll online and I'll just have to come along to the first session and basically see what happens. I hope nobody'll kick me out or anything. Studying in Hamburg is nothing for the faint-hearted, each semester, some new, half-baked plan will amuse old hands and cause younglings to despair. 

Today, I'm going to try and get someone to explain to me what I'll have to do when I change from my ordinary Magister-course to the "state examination" teachers have to take in Germany. The courses themselves are pretty much the same, it's just another title and stupendous amounts of paperwork if you want to change your course. The only difference is that you have to take more of everything as a teacher and have to do internships and Latin. 

Oh, and I'll get my Latin results today. *crosses fingers* 

Anything else? Uh, no. *sigh* Nothing interesting ever happens in  my life. Other than waiting for Stine to work properly I am reading a lovely book on "courtly culture". I'd love to be able to go back to the late years of the 12 century and hear what those Minne songs really sounded like. 
Couldn't these guys hurry a little with realising that not only church music deserved proper notation? I know that those cunning folks have been using neumes back in the 9th century, couldn't they be a little more liberal and teach those illiterate courtiers not only to write the words but the notes of their songs as well?
It feels so pointless to look at the text of a song without any idea whatsoever what the music sounded like.

Um...WTF? On last Tuesday, I could login and choose my minor subjects (well, not Psychology, but Deutsche Sprache und Literature, also ÄDL&Linguistik), and on Wednesday, I could enroll for classes. Or are you talking about NDL?

So, how are your Latin results? I'm sure you did well :)

NDL it is, and according to the Stine info-point, that goes for pretty much every other subject as well.

The nice man I asked told me that they had forgotten to add the possibility to enroll for classes as a regular participant instead of a Hörer and that feature would only be elegible on Monday - today. Which is not the case. Which makes me want to throw a fit. Yeah.

I passed Latin, which is all the result I am apparently to get. We had to call our nice Professor at home and ask her if Silke and I had passed. She told us that we made so few mistakes it was absolutely not a question. That's good news. :)

Weird, definitely. I had no problems enrolling for ÄDL classes. Though it's not even mandatory for me to enroll - it's only necessary for the ÄDL1a classes.

I justtested it - I can enroll for NDL classes o_O This is weird. You sure it doesn't work for you?

Very sure. Did you also test the IIer seminars? There's only one that shows for me at all, and I can only enroll via the Humboldt-Button, not via the "Anmeldungen zu Veranstaltungen"-page. NDL courses don't show there at all.

I had "Neue dtsche Literatur/Nf. (2.Haupt- o.Nebenfach Mag.)" as my minor, maybe I ought to check "Deutsche Sprache und Literatur (2. HF / NF Magister)" or summing. I just thought that'd be wrong. Hm. Odd.

I did test the IIer, and there are 19 of them. I got there via "Anmeldungen zu Veranstaltungen", then "Nebenfächer", then my minor, then "Hauptstudium".

I chose "Deutsche Sprache und Literatur (2. HF / NF Magister)" as minor. It shows ÄDL, NDL and Linguistik. You may want to try that one.

I tested that one last week and it did not make any difference, but I'll try. Last time I checked I could click all I wanted and it would not make any difference - but maybe it'll work now.

Oooh - do you see a seminar that's called "Probleme sprachlicher Kommunikation II (PSK II/Sem Ib DaF): Lernen in der zweiten Sprache", conducted by Michaela Kuchenreuther? That one's tricky, because it doesn't have a 07. number, but 00.423, and I don't know where to find that one.

Yeah, should be, but like other DaF seminars (like "Internetkommunikation: Formen und Funktionen in der Erweiterung diskursiver Räume"), it's nowhere to be found. I didn't find it via the Humboldt-Button, either. Sigh. I don't like that thing.

And I still can't enroll for my minors. Stine hates me.

That sounds awesome. I'm thinking about calling those guys tomorrow to ask them what on earth is wrong now.

Vielleicht haben die auch nur wieder alle in Staffeln freigeschaltet - ich scheine ja in der letzten Staffel zu sein. Grumpf.

Warum zur Hölle wollen die bei der normalen Anmeldung (also nicht Hörer) noch immer keine TANs von mir? - Dachte in allem, das nicht Hörer ist, man also einen Schein macht/eine Prüfung schreibt, wollen die ne TAN. Bin bisher noch bei den Anmeldungen fürs HF... Warum nur, warum war Papier nur so verkehrt für Anmeldungen, warum einfach, wenn es auch kompliziert geht. Momentan stehen da auch alle Anmeldungen noch als "schwebend" da, aber das muss wohl so, denke ich. Bis zum Ende der ersten Meldephase zumindest, vor der Restplatzvergabe. Hm, werde wohl auch nochmal hinfahren müssen, und mich an einem dieser Info-Points durchfragen. *rollseyes*

Your not the only one unable to enroll for your minor courses, a friend of mine can't enroll for English as it's only his second minor. Computer people just have one minor, they wouldn't know. Though they could have informed themselves...

All registrations will stay unclear until the 19th, they had to prolong the registration time limit... and giving away the left-over places will be on Monday, which coincidentally is the first day of classes. Yay.

I guess I'll just go the classes I enrolled for and try staying there, I don't trust this system one bit, and I'm damn glad that I only take two courses this semester, lazy me.

Thought they'd ask for these great TANs, too, but I guess they forgot about their security measures. Hell, I even have that lecture thing on my list although I didn't fully complete the registration.

On another note: Congratulations for passing Latin!!!
