Oldenstädter See

So, twenty minutes walking distance from where I live in the other direction, not into the "inner city", what is there?
Lots of space.

Steep roofs like these. Loads of them.

Loads of carbon dioxide emissions, as the amounts of dandelion show.

Interesting grass, if you are into that sort of thing.

Space for flying kites.

Forestry.

Not much, if you are not into walking and cycling. I did go for the walk I mentioned in the post with the map earlier today. Due to the good weather, I met a lot of other walkers and couldn't make up my mind whether it was polite to greet them, as a teacher at the uni once had told us to once we were in small villages, as it was considered impolite not to, or to ignore them and just quietly walk past as I would in the city. Both got the same results - strange looks. I settled for a sort of half-nod in the end.
The walk there was much shorter than I thought it would be.
On the way to the Oldenstädter See I came across this. This incredibly ostentatious house which reminded me a lot of the houses on The Sims. It does not only fly the German flag, it also has the crest of Lower Saxony over the doorbell. I wonder who lives there.

I've also seen this - which is, incidentally, what our house must have looked like before it was refurbished and turned into a flat. Inviting, no?

This is part of the city's defences from a few centuries back, I believe.

A sports club. The third one within walking distance from where I live.

The Elbeseitenkanal.

I hate channels. Look at it, as though someone had drawn a straight line through the country. Blegh.

That's the sugar factory that's five minutes from where we live. It's not as disconcerting as it used to be when huge white clouds of steam were coming from that chimney.

Ok. No surfing. Especially after actually seeing that lake, I am still wondering how anyone would manage to surf on it in the first place.

An elderly gentleman advised me to take the walk around the entire lake as the weather was so nice. I didn't do that, as the weather was getting worse, but I can imagine doing that with Crocky one day.

A 'shopped fish eye view.

Aaand a hundred meters further down. Sorry. I am too enthusiastic about that lake.

Ducklings!

Uh-oh.

Date: Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 09:49 am (UTC)I really enjoyed looking at your Bugbitten galleries! The site won't let me log in for some reason, so I couldn't go looking for a comment function. I love your pictures of the bazaar, those were amazing - it's also amazing what they sell there. The wigstand is probably my favourite picture, and the woman with the leg.
Those islands in the most recent gallery are stunning, too. Büyükudar is an absolutely beautiful place, and that mosque in Üsküdar looks great. I loved the picture with the tower of the mosque.
Much envy.
