Into the Woods

I did sort of want to go and see the University Player's production of Into the Woods, but [livejournal.com profile] fourthage's most recent music post made it a definite plan. I didn't know that the musical was that awesome, and I'm really curious to see what the UPs did with it, they are usually so very good.

A user on YouTube has uploaded what appears to be the entire thing - and after watching it I think "Agony" is probably my favourite song so far:

Pity I didn't manage to go this week already, now it'll have to be some time next week, and I have no clue when. It'll be a chaotic week as it is, as I have to go to two office hours that I intended to go to this week already - and could not, because the Professors had come down with the flu and cancelled. Seeing as I want to go to the premier of Crocky's play on Tuesday, I'll have to take a car-sharing-ride at 7am on Wednesday to be in Hamburg by 9am, when the office hour'll begin. And Tuesday, oooh, Tuesday is going to be awesome - go to Hamburg at 9:40am to make it to the office hour at 1pm, then take the train back to attend the premier, which begins at 7:30pm.

Into the Woods is a great musical, the music is great but the lyrics are wonderful, it's so quotable and philosophical. Brilliant stuff!

I can't say I've paid a lot of attention to the lyrics yet, but I did try to hunt down a copy today. Sadly, the book shop near the university disappointed me - they didn't have it, score, play, or novel, even though our university's theatre troupe is performing it this week and next. I hope I'll see some of that brilliance once I have found one! :)

"But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?"

"Oh if life were made of moments, even now and then a bad one, but if life were only moments, then you'd never know you'd had one."

And so on. :o)

He really is a genius!

Oh, I like those! I need to read those lyrics.

It's really odd to think that I did not know it even existed until recently, I would have thought that it's impossible to miss something this awesome.

I have the whole of that particular performance on DVD. I frequently put it on for background noise when I'm puttering around or doing chores.

I'm thinking about ordering it on Amazon, I've fallen for it.

Oh, do come and see it! It's lovely. The ever-critical Jan said it was their best production so far. And, of course, the costumes are fabulous ^^ Agony is the best song, indeed.

I shall definitely try! I didn't know what it was, really, so I was not that overly keen on seeing it, and since I was not at uni so often this semester, there was no one there to sing its praises and make me want to stay here longer to see it. Now I'm looking forward especially to your choreography of "Agony". :D
