As linked by bronnyelsp before, there is an awesome documentary on eight people who believe that they are "English through and through". They agree to have their DNA checked, find that a percentage of their DNA hails from somewhere else, hilarity ensues.

I'd love to take that test and learn about my genetic history. I suspect that it's mostly Eastern European.

It is so ridiculous that these island dwellers are all so convinced that they are "100% English", and I love how their test subjects all deal with the information that they are not, in fact, "100% English", whatever that means, by trying to explain some part of their identity by their genetic make-up ("Oh, far Eastern, so that's why I like spring rolls!").

I wonder whether that has any long-term effects, if they start feeling a little less hostile towards the particular ethnic group they are descended from. Makes me wish that test was both easily available, 1000% confidential, and required - that should have a positive outcome for some people with skeevy race issues.

Since it's the European elections soon, I've had some lovely stuff from the British National Party through the door.

It's kind of hilarious, but in a sad way... Apparently, we are in the midst of a new 'battle for Britain' and the British have earned a *right* to their own jobs and not to have them taken away by evil Eastern Europeans, who also clog up the NHS.

UK Independence Party also funny with a leaflet featuring Churchill giving a victory sign. How......contemporary!

Oooh, the BNP. Sigh. A couple of days ago, I've seen this documentary (again via Bron): called, 'BNP exposed - The Secret Agent' (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=633A27FC95A4CA4A&search_query=british+national+party+documentary) in which a BBC reporter infiltrates the BNP. What is shown about them is absolutely appaling.

Over here, there was quite an stir-up about the campaign posters of the SPD, but apart from that, it's been fairly quiet. Not that anyone is that bothered, really, and I wonder where that'll get us.

I don't think I've ever voted in the European elections before but given the risk of them getting in, as long as I can get to the polling station (which should hopefully have been selected as somewhere within walking distance) then I shall!

To be honest, I don't think the BNP are forecast to have a chance in the eastern region -- it's the northwest everyone's worried about -- and of course they've no chance in London, but for me it's still worth it to keep their percentage and momentum down. (Well, you know me, I just like voting.)

Well, that's a fun little documentary.
That first woman, Carol What's-Her-Face, wow, she's a hateful one. So that's English gentry! First you make ab-so-lutely clear you're pro-immigrants because somehow it's gotten through your thick skull that's the acceptable thing to do, then you start your near-racist little rant on how your oh-so English ancestors built English culture all by themselves and how painting your face white, your lips red and protecting your "flaxen hair" even indoors while restoring your mansion entitles you to their superiority over the only thing that's wrong with those immigrant plebes - which happens to just be their entire background.
I'd like to have my DNA checked, too. I hope it's diverse. Pure blood is stale blood.
