And for something completely petition-unrelated: [livejournal.com profile] kindkit on [livejournal.com profile] discworld shared these promotional pictures for the adaptation of Going Postal that have been published on Sky's official page:

I haven't been following this, and I'm mostly looking forward to this as this is really not a series I care about that much. I am not sure how I feel about Witchfinder Aredian/Mr Tulkington/Christopher Lilly/Lord Stockbridge/Maxim de Winter being cast as Lord Vetinari, but Im not likely to agree with whomever gets cast in that role. Well, unless the acting is going to be what it was in large parts of Hogfather, then I'm not sure I'm looking forward to this at all.

I love Gilt, but I am not sure the costume people know what a "severely plain dress" is.

And who is that dude next to Reacher Gilt?

Oooh, thanks for the pictures! I had no idea they were already that far into production. Going Postal must be the best of the newer Discworld novels. Hopefully, they can top the Colours of Magic adaptation.

I hadn't, either, this was a really pleasant surprise. It's definitely more likely to work as an adaptation than the other new ones (Monstrous Regiments wouldn't, I'm pretty sure of that), so I'm looking forward to this.

Although I'd have loved Wee Free Men, in spite of the prospect of CGI Feegle (not that I'd mind CGI Feegle per se, but it seems that whenever there's a larger CGI endeavour, it seems to suck resources out of other parts of the movie).

I've been kind of shocked at how decent the Disc adaptations have been, but disappointed that they keep adapting my least favorites, Hogfather aside (although apparently I am the only Pratchett fan who doesn't think Rincewind is the awesomest).

I did like Jeremy Irons' Vetinari well enough, although I'm not sure I can think of any actor who would really be Vetinari enough.

God, I want a Tiffany adaptation so much. Tiffany is my very favorite these days, and it could be filmed in the English chalk country, and it would be awesome. They could do live action Feegle, I think; they'd just have to do greenscreen to make them the right size.

I think I read in an interview once that Terry Pratchett always makes sure that he is still to some degree involved in the proceedings so as to prevent things from getting out of hand and too outrageously far away from canon - do you know anything about that? That might explain the lack of suck.

Rincewind - oh, I'm another one. I dislike him as a character and the books which feature him also tend to be my least favourites. I'm a little torn on Hogfather because I adore Susan, but it's certainly not one in a big favourite of mine and I didn't really understand why they adapted this book from the middle of a plot - apart from the appeal of having a Christmas movie, that is. So far, I think I'm happy with the adaptations - no books I really cared about, so they wouldn't upset me too much if they got it wrong, but at the same time I'm sad that we don't get to have an adaptation of the Tiffany books or the Witches' series.

I'm torn on that issue - I'm not quite sure if part of the reason why I enjoyed the adaptations so far was precisely that I didn't care much about the books in question, and I'm wondering if that would change if they'd decided to make a Witch movie. I'd love to see that, but at the same time, if I am weary of different Vetinaris that's nothing compared to what my views on any Granny Weatherwax might be. Oh, but I'd love to see Feegle. Especially live-action Feegle. Sigh.

Probably, but it's also just that I don't think of Discworld as being something that's easy to adapt well to screen. So I'm surprised it works as well as it does.

And yeah, you're right. Granny would be even harder to cast, and...yeah. Still. It could be lovely.
