ART: Comfort

mothwing: Silhouetted Minerva and Severus sitting in front of a Christmassy mantlepiece (Hat)
[personal profile] mothwing
Title: Comfort
Pairing(s): Minerva / Poppy
Rating: G
Summary: "No, Minerva, there's nothing you could have done." - Minerva holding a vigil at Hermione's Basilisk-petrified body, Poppy Pomfrey lending some comfort and a hot cuppa.
Author's Notes: Less colourful than the previous silhouettes because I felt more drabness was appropriate to the scene. I don't know why Poppy's head turned out this big, but I suspect it's her wimple. Also, I like it when my art passes the Bechdel/Wallace test. Credit: texture by =cloaks.

I'm really so taken with this series. You're quite right about how well the black-and-white works here, given the content. I love your Minerva as always, and Poppy is a masterpiece..., er, mistress-piece. Her body shape is perfect; her nose gives her character and distinctiveness; the medical outfit is perfect for the old-fashioned feel of the wizarding world. And that last panel tells an entire story on its own.

Thank you, that's very flattering :) I modeled her on Gemma Jones' Poppy, and since I was also quite taken with the outfit they gave her in the adaptations I kept the wimple, even though I originally wanted to give her a pointy hat because I couldn't find any description of her headgear.

Thank you! I imagine Minerva's usually rather straight-backed and upright around her students, too, but given the situation I doubt she'd keep it up when togetehr with Poppy.

Incredible, amazing, simply absolutely great!!! The background, the soft shadows, the detailed feathers on the hat (the fact that it is set on the table) - and, of course, the most important: the two of them... their posture, Poppy's wimple and the bound ribbon of her apron...

PS: this really would be so fitting for a design on a hot chocolate-mug ;-)

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. :D I doubt that Minerva would let anything happen to her hat even when in distress, hence it's place.

Minerva/Poppy! Be still, my heart. This is incredible. The whole story that is told in these three images, and the last one which is exactly as I imagine their relationship.
Poppy's clothes, The droop in Minerva's shoulders, the way she holds Poppy's hand...
Brilliant.

Thanks! I didn't use to usually a shipper, but she seems to be such a great choice of character who could lend support when Minerva needs it.

It's a good archive. I like the ratings system, the way you can look for challenge stories, and the way you can link stories by different authors together. I know that down the line they want to host fanart and fanvids, too.

Oh, this is adorable! Your Minerva with the pointed nose and the chin on the small side is so much more vulnerable and approachable than most of the other Minervas are, and that works out so well in your images. I love the first one best, where she looks up to Poppy. And her hat is, once again, just awesome.

Thanks! I get worried that she might look too vulnerable rather than approachable because of the chin, so I'm glad that it works out.

How incredibly beautiful. I love the silhouettes, it makes the moment feel even more private and I as the audience feel as though i am witnessing something very intimate and delicate. extremely evocative and faultlessly fantastic.
