Even though I am not sure that imagining an icosahedron is ever helpful, I still had a lot of fun on a German site called Mathematische Basteleien which offers a neat tutorial for a Bascetta Star.

Inspired by our fröbeling yesterday and this is what is now gracing my desk:

That's beautiful, and it looks quite intricate. Well done! The best I can do with folding paper is a paper airplane and a paper cup, which does come in handy when I'm thirsty. ;D

The module that the star consists of is actually much easier than a paper cup, which is the only reason why I could construct it. :D It's visible on the poster just in the background.

:D Thanks. I'm considering making our holiday decorations with the means of modular origami this year.

And really simple once you realise how the modules are put together. :D

I've tried my hand at several examples of "modular Origami" and manged some nice examples, but this Bascetta star so far eluded me. But with this tutorial I might try again next winter! Until then, I'm trying to find coloured Ramieband - it seems to be nearly unavailable, just to had rathrer expensively. *sigh*
